Zionsville Community Schools is seeking applicants for our Special Education Paraprofessional position at our Developmental Preschool. This is a full time, benefits eligible position.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist the classroom teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on the IEP and understanding individual students needs, interests and abilities.
  2. Assist with district and state wide testing.
  3. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  4. Serve as chief source of information and assistance to any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher.
  5. Implement student specific behavior plans to promote effective and safe student learning environments.
  6. Provides instruction, under teacher supervision, to students in a variety of individual and group activities to reinforce IEP plans, instructional objectives, and promote student success.
  7. Communicate with supervising instructional staff and professional support staff to evaluate progress and participate in implementation of IEP objectives.
  8. Adapt student classroom activities, assignments and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
  9. Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments (lunchroom, playground, restrooms, classrooms, assemblies, field trips, etc.) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  10. Implement and assist in the development of appropriate prompting strategies to develop maximum independence for students.
  11. Maintain a variety of confidential databases and records to document activities and provide reliable information for program facilitation.
  12. Assist with the toileting needs of students including getting on/off the toilet, toileting, diapering and/or help with clothing.
  13. May be required to lift/position students to support transitioning from one location to another.
  14. Assist with basic hygiene for students; for example, hand washing and toothbrushing.

 

General Functions:

  1. Communicate effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals within ZCS including teachers, staff, parents, and families, as directed by the classroom teacher.
  2. Must maintain cooperative working relationships while maintaining strict confidentiality of student information.
  3. Attend all in-service, training, and staff meetings as directed by building and/or district administration.
  4. Assists classroom teacher with maintaining availability and organization of all instructional materials.
  5. Follow behavior plans and promptly address challenging or physically aggressive behavior.
  6. Provide individual personal care supports to students.
  7. Other duties as assigned by Classroom Teacher or Building Administration.
