Zionsville Community Schools is seeking candidates for a School Social Worker position. This position will begin February 2025.
POSITION SUMMARY: The principal tasks of the School Social Worker are to help students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student's individual potential. The School Social Worker brings to the educational process an understanding of the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process. Further, the School Social Worker provides the necessary professional skills to assist students and communities in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner.
- Provide individual or group counseling or skills training to students in order to help increase school success by helping the student build upon strengths
- Provide crisis intervention
- Develop long term and short term intervention strategies consistent with students social and emotional needs, strengths, backgrounds and life experiences
- Use a variety of strategies, tools and techniques to evaluate the progress and performance of students and families
- Provide services to students and their families within the context of multicultural understanding and competence that enhances families’ support of student learning experiences
- Develop and provide training and educational programs for students, staff and parents that address the mission of Zionsville Community Schools in promoting a positive school environment
- Serve on the student support teams and special education committees
- Shared responsibility for data collection and reporting
- Collaborate with community mental health centers and other agencies that provide assistance to families for continuity of care
- Communicate with school staff and administration on issues of attendance, confidentiality, cultural competence, mental health, behavior management, peer conflict, bullying, discipline, crisis intervention and child abuse and neglect
- Assist students and their families with gaining access to community resources
- Confer with community stakeholders to facilitate an understanding of factors in home, school and community that affect student school success
- Work with individuals, groups and organizations that have different interests to develop programs or systems of care that support and enhance the health and social-emotional well-being of students
